Time Tide eBook Paddy Cummins Reviews

This gripping novel is inspired by one of the most intriguing sea mysteries of recent times, and tells the story of the fishing boat 'Simshar' which exploded in a raging inferno and sank, throwing her crew into the Mediterranean, and the Island of Malta into shock and confusion.
The crew had nothing but a flimsy, makeshift raft of netting, and some plastic containers, and for six days and nights drifted aimlessly in a harrowing struggle of human endurance.
It's four years now since that terrible tragedy, but the Maltese people are still baffled and bewildered. They remain unconvinced with the explanations offered, and with the scant evidence produced to show what really happened on that ill-fated voyage.
The family-owned and operated fishing boat left the little port of Marsaxlokk at 5 am on July 7th 2008 for a sword fishing trip to the fertile fishing grounds 80 miles from Malta off the coast of Sicily. Three generations of the family were on board, plus two crewmen, a Maltese and a young Somali.
Three days of excellent fishing that filled the hold with swordfish was amazing, they were steaming for home a day earlier than planned, and the Skipper and crew were jubilant.
The catastrophe that befell the 'Simshar' and her crew on their homeward journey, and the circumstances surrounding it, has since been the subject of exhausting government and police inquiries.
On July 12th, the wife of the skipper reported the vessel and its crew missing, and The Armed Forces of Malta embarked on a massive search and rescue operation, which lasted for six days without finding the slightest trace of the 'Simshar' or the crew.
The Island of Malta was awash with rumours, raw anger, and conspiracy theories. Reports of Maltese and Sicilian fishermen being at war over encroachment of rich fishing grounds fueled the speculation. Malta, despite having an extensive fishing fleet, had not suffered a fatal fishing tragedy for 84 years, but this one gripped the island in a frenzy of turmoil and emotion.
While researching 'The Crying Sea', Irish author, Paddy Cummins spent many months among the Marsaxlokk fishermen, discussing the tragedy and hearing their views. To protect those involved, the story is told in fictional form, with the names of people and places changed. All the characters in the novel are fictional, created by the author, and are not the real characters.
The book is a profile of suspense, mystery and intrigue, and many who have read it testify to its powerful emotional effect, but also to a beautiful portrayal of a harrowing saga of intense human drama.
